WINWARG nsFAQ
(That's "WINWARG not so Frequently Asked Questions")
- What's WINWARG?
WINWARG is an acronym for "What If Noctis Was A Roguelike Game?" and is a webcomic created by myself. I try to update every Wednesday and Sunday. - What's Noctis?
Noctis is a space simulator written by Alessandro Ghignola, and is available at http://anywherebb.com/. I'll let the site tell you better. - What's a roguelike game?
You mean I have to answer that as well? Well, okay. A roguelike game is similar to an RPG, except that everything is rendered top-down in ASCII (usually - there are a few which differ from this). Also, you generally only get one shot per character. The classic examples of roguelikes are Nethack, ADOM, and Angband. - So what makes WINWARG any different?
The point is that WINWARG isn't a real game. Noctis isn't a roguelike, and in fact has no fighting whatsoever. I thought I'd try and show what a Noctis roguelike might look like...or at least that was the idea in #0. The plan kind of changed. But anyway. - But I want graphics!
Sorry, you won't find them here. Graphics aren't what WINWARG is about. - Oh, okay. So how do you make these?
Simple: I create the strip itself in Openoffice.org in MacOS X, then export it to a PDF. After using Preview to convert that to TGA, I then crop and convert the file into PNG format using the Gimp before publishing. (The beauty of this set of software is that, I could transfer operation to another OS quite easily, since the software is portable. And in fact, I have on one occasion, since my laptop's hard drive failed - remember #25?) - What font do you use?
Lucida ConsoleP, mostly. Computer interaction is HSP Noctis Display Font. Other characters and/or languages get ther own fonts on an as-and-when basis.
- Is this FAQ finished?
Nope. - When will it be finished?
Whenever it gets finished.
